Scurrying Jews

Known as The Black Hats, the ultra-orthodox. They scurry here, they scurry there. These chaps had entered the old city through the Damascus Gate and were hot-footing it through the Muslim Quarter on their way to the Western (AKA Wailing) Wall. The Old City has a number of quarters, the Muslim Quarter just mentioned, the Jewish Quarter (gold, jewellery and artworks can be found there), the Armenian Quarter (didn't stray into that quarter so can't elaborate further). And then there is the Christian Quarter where mad nut-case Christian pilgrims abound doing the Stations of the Cross which is all very well in theory but a phalanx of about 6 of the devoted carry a large wooden cross and I nearly ended up with one of them planted right in the middle of my face. There are also plenty of cats in the Old City so there is probably scope for the Crazy Cat Lady Religion to flourish. It would only enhance Jerusalem's complicated mix. I exited through the Jaffa Gate which was where, in 1917, General Allemby (commanding the British forces of which the Australian Light Horse was a part) entered the city to claim victory.
